JAPANESE BROADCASTER NHK TUNES INTO
LINEUP INDUSTRIES FORMAT RADIO GAGA
Third season commission in Spain and second season in Switzerland
Independent international distribution company Lineup Industries’ highly original and uniquely touching format Radio Gaga, which follows a hyper-local, intimate radio station, has been commissioned by Japanese public broadcaster, NHK.
The feel-good social experiment show which has been adapted in the Netherlands and Denmark, has also been recommissioned for a third season by Movistar in Spain, and a second season by TSR in Switzerland, following its ratings success.
Originally produced in Belgium by De Chinezen for VRT’s Canvas channel, Radio Gaga sees two hosts travel through the country in their mobile radio studio, stopping to set up camp in various marginalised communities. They then spend the next 48 hours running a radio station for the locals – taking everything from song requests to confessions. Radio Gaga searches for nuance, humor and emotion, the soul and the soundtrack of a particular place. What is unique about this community, and what connects those who live there?
Julian Curtis, co-founder of Lineup Industries said: “Radio Gaga continues to be a compelling offering for broadcasters thanks to its compassion, humour and wholly original concept which in today’s digital age, is refreshingly easy going and welcoming while still making full use of social media. Taking the format into Japan with NHK is a major coup that underscores its universal, feel-good appeal.”
