Commission for EBU award-winning format created by Panenka
Amsterdam, 24 April 2024: Independent international distribution company Lineup Industries’ EBU award-winning format We’ve Got to Walk has won its first commission outside of its original territory of Belgium. RTS in Switzerland has picked up the show for a local remake where it will be called San Detours and filming will commence in the Swiss alps this month.
Created by Panenka, We’ve Got to Walk aired on VRT’s Canvas channel where it has recently been commissioned for a second season. The format won Best Format at the EBU Formats Forum 2023.
RTS is also the Swiss home of Radio Gaga (Caravane FM), another Belgian format distributed by Lineup Industries, which has also been commissioned for a ninth season.
We’ve Got to Walk is a heart-warming format that jumpstarts important life conversations reflecting the unconditional love between parent and child. It’s a bond so strong that it is often unspoken.
What if we were to say it out loud? What if we really did say to each other: ‘I love you’, ‘I’m proud of you’. But this series is not all about the highs, it’s sometimes about the lows too and how we feel about them. Why wait to talk about the things that matter most?
In the show, the host visits famous people at home and asks them many questions about their bond with one of their parents or children before paying a visit to the parent or child in question, to ask them the same questions.
They later take a long walk together in nature, wearing headphones where, during the walk, they will hear quotes from each other’s interview. Often these are revelations, things that have gone unsaid for too long. We’ve Got to Walk brings them to the surface, shining a light on these honest familial exchanges.
Patrick Léger, Chef Unité Société Audiovisuelle, Département Société & Culture at RTS said: “We’ve Got to Walk (Sans Detours in French) is a simple yet effective idea and the perfect example of a show that captures deep emotional human connection. It’s a series that will resonate with all of us.”
Ed Louwerse, Founder of Lineup Industries, said: “This show is very heart-warming, bringing to the surface emotional conversations that have often been buried due to the frenetic pace of modern life. Nature plays an important role too, with its proven mindfulness factor, and the slow pace of the walk in the outdoors brings an ultimately uplifting resolution to the conversation leaving viewers looking to their own family relationships.”
