Commissioned to commemorate the 100 years of the end of the First World War The Unknown Soldiers unfolds as a historical true crime investigation. When the remains of long fallen soldiers are found in a foreign field an all-female team of investigators from the army swing into action.  They use historical records and DNA matching to reunite the remains with their ancestors. That they might finally be buried with full military honours. A programme that brings history and sacrifice in stark relief for the families whose ancestors fell in wars fought long ago.
